Agroils was formed in 2006 in Florence by 3 engineers, Giovanni Venturini Del Greco, Stefano Babbini and Federico Maria Grati, supported by a team of professional agronomists. The group has developed significant competences in vegetable oil supply chains structuring and management. Thanks to several projects in Africa, South America and Asia, usually in difficult social and infrastructural situations, expatriate staff has developed capacity to adapt the most advanced agro-engineer techniques to local environments; moreover, in each foreign project country, Agroils has established stable relationships with institutions and local partners.
Giovanni Venturini Del Greco - Partner (Industrial Engineer) Giovanni Venturini Del Greco is the General Manager of Agroils S.r.l. and the founder of Agroils. Giovanni holds a degree in Industrial Engineering in the University of Florence (2004) and he has attended a Master in Industrial Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. In Stockholm he has worked at a "Black liquor to Hydrogen" project with Nykomb Synergetics SA and at a "Biodiesel from Jatropha" project in Ghana. In 2005 he has been working as Project Manager for a small-scale Jatropha project in Tanzania with the NGO Ingegneria Senza Frontiere (Engineers without Borders). The same year he joined D1 Oils plc in Johannesbourg and took part in the development of the first integrated Jatropha biofuel chain in Africa. During 2006 he has been working as biofuels consultant for D1 Oils plc, Actelios SpA (Falck Group), Merloni Progetti SpA and EOne Srl. At the end of 2006 Giovanni joined Federico Maria Grati and Stefano Babbini and started with them Agroils Srl as the first biofuels consulting company with a special focus on tropical crops.
Federico Maria Grati - Partner (Environmental Engineer) Dott. Ing. Grati is the manager of the Agricultural division of Agroils S.r.l. and charter member from 2006. Federico holds a degree in Environmental engineering and a Master degree in Natural Resources Management in the University of Florence (2005). He has been working as researcher at the faculty of Agronomy in Florence with oilseed production and biofuel chain optimization and as Project Manager for an NGO based in Florence with projects in Africa before joining Agroils. He is responsible in Agroils for design, implementation and management of agricultural supply chains based on Jatropha Curcas and other tropical oilseeds, especially in Arid areas and Sub-Saharan regions of Africa. With a strong background in project management, he offers support in human resources organization and coordination, project management and agricultural and civil design. He is responsible for Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal and involved into the management in Algeria, Mozambique. Stefano Babbini - Partner (Enviromental Engineer) Dott. Ing. Babbini is partner of Agroils S.r.l., Charter Member from 2006. Environmental engineer specialized in biomass production chain, he has been working as researcher at the Energetic Department in University of Florence with oilseeds and solid biomass plants. With a strong background in extraction and refining plants and vegetable oil quality for energy production, Ing. Babbini offers support in business plan editing for oilseeds production chain, and he is responsible in Agroils for engineering and processing plants branch. Furthermore he has been working in Jatropha curcas and sunflower agricultural projects in Indonesia, Ghana, Togo, Burkina Faso, Brasil. Actually he is Technical Director of Agroils project in Ghana and responsible for West Africa and Latin America countries.. Federico Garcea (Economist) Mr Federico Garcea is the sales manager of Agroils. Graduated in Political Science and Economics at the University of Florence(2006), he has experience on sales and logistic, trading of vegetable oil and seeds, sustainable development projects, company internet and mail marketing, biomass energy project development, in particular related to the Jatropha curcas oil crop and its supply chain from early plantation phases to biofuel, biodiesel and biomass energy production, Carbon (Kyoto) sector and emission reduction related activities. Luca Serri (Energetic Engineer) The engineer Luca Serri is responsible in Agroils for the energy conversion. Best graduated in the Energetic Engineering course of the Pisa University, he is specialized in saving energy and alternative sources of energy. He worked for the Energetic Department of the University on development of energy plans for public administrations and for the Energetic Agency of Massa e Carrara regarding the planning of plants fuelled by renewable sources.Currently he is responsible in cogeneration plants from biomass. Pietro Fabeni (Agronomist) Mr. Fabeni graduated in Agricultural Science specializing in arboriculture - fruit production, organic crop and country planning. Mr. Fabeni is a consultant for the development of agricultural companies. In 2003 he was in Angola to collect data for his Master thesis. Mr. Fabeni worked as a researcher in the tobacco chain production for the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. Currently he is a PhD student in "Agricultural Biotechnology for tropical production" at the University of Firenze. Mr. Fabeni's doctoral thesis is dealing with genetic selection for biosynthesis control of the phorbol esters in Jatropha curcas and improving seed storing properties. He is responsible in Agroils for plantations set up, nursery installation and management in Arid Areas. Expert in plant nursering, phytology and pest control, he coordinates the activities and human resources management in several projects. Moreover he is responsible into R&D division for controlled breeding and genetic improvement and coordinates the relationships between Agroils and other international research institutions. He’s is currently Country Responsible in Agroils for Cameroon and involved into the management in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Morocco, Mozambic and Tunisia. Roberto Gotti (Agronomist) Mr. Roberto Gotti is graduated in agricultural science at the University of Bolonia(2000). He has a large experience in rural development, food quality and land preserving projects,in a lot of Maghreb and Saharian countries, as manager or agronomic consultant. He is currently responsible in Agroils for Senegal Jatropha project: plantations set up, nursery installation and trasplanting.
Matthieu Berardi (Agronomist) Mr. Matthieu Berardi is graduated in tropical agricultural science at the University of Florence with specialization in animal husbandry. He has esperience in biomass and energy crop. He worked in rural developing project and Agroforestry plans and silvopasture systems in a lot of country, in land security for food and energy crop. In Agroils he coordinate tecnhical agronomic activities, nursery and plantation designing and developing; actually he works in Burkina Faso and Ghana.
Lorenzo Martelletti (Environmental engineer) Lorenzo Martelletti is an environmental engineer with specialization in geophysics and survey. From 2006 he is member of the NGO Geologos sin Fronteras, with them he took part in hydrography, hydrogeology and water supply projects in Honduras. In 2007 he has worked as surveyor in the U.S. on a research vessel. Currently he cooperates with the Applied Geophysical Lab at Florence University where he has been a researcher and professor of Applied Geophysics. Since 2008 he works for Agroils.
Laura Nicolella (Accounting) Miss Laura Nicolella is graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Florence (2007). Keen of Hispanic culture she lived and worked in the Canary Islands (2000), she travelled through South America (2001) and officiated for the Department of New Latin Languages of the University of Florence (2006), developing a great interest and ability in human and multicultural relationships. Currently she attends as secretary for Agroils looking after accounting and relationships between partners and employees.
Gabriele Regio (External Tropical Agronomist) Gabriele Regio has a Master degree in Tropical and Sub Tropical agriculture Science at the University of Florence; in 2005 he get a Master in Biological and Biodynamic Agriculture. In 2006 he start work in Dominican Republic for Ucodep as project manager of rural development plan aimed to improve the social and economic living conditions of the small coffee producers in the Dominican mountainous areas. Inside of these project he is investigating the potential use of Jatropha Curcas applied to the mechanical systems of coffee production and transformation with the aim to reduce the production costs and the environmental impact.
